BAYLEE + TOM - PLACITAS
“The sunrise, of course, doesn’t care if we watch it or not. It will keep on being beautiful, even if no one bothers to look at it.” -Gene Amole.
I’m headed down I-25 at 6:30 AM on a Sunday Morning in March. I’ve set out early this morning to drive North to Placitas Trailhead, before the sun rises. The sky is glowing a twilight blue. I love sunrise sessions in the foothills, and when I proposed this time to Baylee and Tom, they were excited too. This is their favorite view of the Sandias, because it offers a new unique view of the mountains from the North Side, and it displays its jagged top and expansive width. They’re right, it looks completely different than the familiar face, I’ve see everyday in Albuquerque. I’m anxious to see where the sun rises on the horizon.
I greet Baylee and Tom in the parking lot, in the crisp mountain air. We comment how it’s chilly, and we debate layering on jackets and we head out into the view. The two catch me up on their lives as we wind down and up the trail. It’s been four years since we last crossed paths at a wedding, and a lot of life has happened since then. We talk of how we navigated the pandemic, which happened shortly after our first meeting. They share stories of their travels in Costa Rica & Mexico and I ask them about their unforgettable elopement in Italy. They tell me, it was what they’ve always dreamed of.
These two dream together. They are passionate and tender with each other, and I am certain these two were complimentarily made for each other.
They look deeply in each other’s eyes, kiss freely and fold into each other’s arms, hands and bodies effortlessly. They are the kind of couple that feels like they’ve lived many lives together. They feel a bit like the sunrise in that, they don’t care if you watch them or not, they will keep on being beautiful.
From the first time we met, to today- their love and connection remains. Yet they’ve been out there existing, loving, thriving, striving and dreaming all this time. I’m just happy I get to witness them again, and like the sunrise, I’m in awe of their beauty.
